About the Department

The department of internal medicine is one of the main departments at the college of Medicine. it offers instruction in the following courses:

Internal medicine, neurological diseases, dermatology, and psychiatry for medical students starting from the second and third years. The basics are first taught within the designated teaching units, followed by clinical practice and training in clinical skills beginning in the fourth year through to the sixth year. During this stage, the subject becomes more detailed and comprehensive, enabling graduates to competently handle various medical cases. in addition, the department oversees several other courses taught in the clinical years, such as Medical Ethics, Patient Safety, and Anesthesia.

General Overview of the program :

  • Path: Part of the Medicine and Surgery program.
  • Level of Education: Program specific courses are taught in the clinical years, fourth year to the sixth.
  • Academic degree: The program doesn't grant a separate degree.
  • An average of 45 Male and 45 Female students in the 4th, 5th, and 6th years.
  • Job opportunities: Excellent students may be appointed as demonstrators in the field of internal medicine, neurology, dermatology or psychiatry.

Study years :

Teaching of internal medicine begins with some lectures in the basic years ( second and third). in the fourth academic year, the structured teaching of internal medicine starts, which includes both fundamental and advanced clinical skills. in this year, students are taught theoretical lectures and clinical sessions in internal medicine. as well as medical ethics.

Medical ethics is also taught in that year (4th).

In the fifth year, courses include neurology, dermatology, and psychiatry, where students acquire advanced clinical skills through rotations in these specialties. in addition, the department participates in teaching anesthesia and emergency medicine.

In the sixth year, psychiatry is taught again, during which students gain the necessary skills to deal with psychiatric patients, manage and diagnose cases, and the department also contributes to the teaching of the patient safety course.
