About the Department: The Department of Pharmacology was established with the founding of the College of Medicine at Northern Border University in 1430H 2009. It is located in the main college building male campus and serves students of the College of Medicine and the College of Nursing in both male and female sections.
Pharmacology focuses on the study of chemical compounds with therapeutic effects. It examines how drugs interact with cells and organs to produce these effects, whether by binding to protein receptors or inhibiting specific enzymes in the body. The discipline also includes the study of drug formulations, properties, indications, contraindications, adverse effects, and toxicity. The department prepares students to use medications rationally and to select the most appropriate drug based on each patient’s condition.
 

 

Vision: In alignment with the College's vision, the Department of Pharmacology seeks to excel in clinical pharmacology and therapeutics and to lead in education, research, and community service.

Mission: The department's mission supports the College's mission of graduating competent physicians who provide high quality healthcare, are qualified to pursue medical specialization locally and internationally, and are capable of conducting scientific research that contributes to community service and medical advancement.
 

Objectives:

The department aims to equip students with the following:

  • Prescribe medications using reliable drug information sources..
  • Understand drug indications.
  • Recognize adverse drug effects and prevent potential complications.
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of drug interactions.
  • Critically evaluate scientific research and apply its findings in clinical practice.

Program Overview: The Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery is a single program offered by the College of Medicine. The department contributes to this program in collaboration with eleven other departments.

Duration of Study: The Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery program spans six academic years, including the preparatory first year Health Track, totaling 12 academic levels.
