Establishment: The department was established alongside the College of Medicine in 1428 AH.

Department tasks:

  • Teaching Obstetrics and Gynecology courses.
  • Preparing academic schedules.
  • Assessing students in final examinations which includes preparing exam papers and conducting exam across all sections.
  • Preparing and reviewing students final grades.
  • Coordinating with health institutions and Ministry of Health staff regarding relevant training activities.
  • Participating in tasks outside the department, such as college councils and various scientific committees.
  • Department members teach some courses such as, Patient Safety course, among other courses.

Objectives:

  • Ensure mastery of clinical protocols in Obstetrics and Gynecology, aligned with the local healthcare system.

Course: 

The Obstetrics and Gynecology course relies on lectures, seminars, and workshops for the theoretical part. the practical part focuses on clinical rounds and skills labs, in addition to problem based learning sessions and case presentations.

Academic Programs:

The department does not award a bachelor's or any other independent degree. it is part of the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery program.

Study years:

  • Obstetrics and Gynecology is taught in the fifth year of the MBBS program.
  • Students must complete the course as a prerequisite for studying surgery
